Ursinus negativus

The transparent sound does allows all the little juicy bits from each instrument to be heard, and boy is there a lot of juice to be found here.

Standout tracks include the spacey Memphis & 53rd, The Fix (a potential single with its ear catching and original layered hook) and Michio’s Death Drive featuring the chunkiest chorus of the album.

Oh, and if you were wondering about the title of the album, it's the band name in Spanish.

Death of a grindcore legend

...continued from front page

Mieszko Talarczyk died, tragically, in the Thailand tsunami and this news struck the underground music community strongly. Grand Finale, a compilation of basically everything that wasn’t on their four albums, was planned and in production before his passing (strangely timely given his untimely death). It serves as an excellent epitaph to what this band achieved in their eleven years of existence. All the songs (even the earliest) have been remastered and remixed to a superb standard, and the generous 80-page booklet contains 2 short essays (one by music journalist Albert Mudrian and another by Anders Jacobson) along with details of each recording (inlcuding memoirs by Jacobson) and the lyrics to every song (with the exception of the few where the lyrics have been lost). A multitude of rare and unseen photographs from the beginning until the end of the band rounds out the presentation. With 152 tracks spread across two discs presented in a lavishly-produced digipak (resembling a book), on top of the 80 page booklet, this package is a lot to swallow. But it’s necessary for anyone who so much as wants to play distorted guitar.
