Sunns shine real loud Now I am no metal virgin. I have seen in concert most of those I thought were the heaviest bands around in the last 20 years, including Motorhead, Metallica, Kyuss, Napalm Deth, Pantera, Fear Factory, Sepultura, Manowar, Slayer, Mastodon and so on. These by comparison to Sunn were like attending a Kenny G concert.Imagine standing on a runway as a 747 comes into land an inch above your head. You can feel your clothes and your internal organs moving as the venue shakes and rattles. This is Zen heavy - there is no bass, no drums, no vocals, no keys , no riffs. Just pure chords ringing out. It's all about tone and sustain. You shake your head in disbelief. You cannot tear yourself away from it - the opening scene of Back to the Future spring's to mind, with Micheal J Fox literally blown away by the power from his amp. This was an experience both unique and unforgettable! |
Satch shreds To call Satch a shred-head is an understatement; the man is a freak on guitar, and he pulls off the most extraordinary licks with effortless purity. Some might consider the show to be nothing more than fretboard masturbation. Maybe, but even so, I wish I could masturbate that well!
Having a great band doesn't hurt either. Of particular note is bassist Matt Bissonette, whose usual gig is with with David Lee Roth.
