Vince Jones: Not brassy, but still gleaming This willingness to subsume his vocals within the arrangements brings the stylistic emphases into play, and provides a successful vehicle for his support musicians, many of whom truly are virtuosos. The songs genuinely sound different, they are not reprises of the same vocal techniques. As for the support cast, Dale Barlow on saxophone and James Muller on guitar stand out. Barney McCall and Doug de Vries also excel in the rhythm playing. Jones' music has a very different balance to the usual jazz-star-sings-with-some-other-guys-in-the-background. It is more humble, more effective, and ultimately more musical. This compilation album has a fine selection of songs, and is pleasurable indeed
